{"id":2501,"date":"2016-04-13T20:28:24","date_gmt":"2016-04-14T01:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/firerescuefitness.com\/?p=2501"},"modified":"2018-04-06T02:03:02","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T02:03:02","slug":"one-best-firefighter-exercises-crawling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firerescuefitness.com\/2016\/04\/one-best-firefighter-exercises-crawling\/","title":{"rendered":"One of the Best Firefighter Exercises- Crawling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You read that heading correctly, crawling is one of the best exercises for firefighters. \u00a0 I actually think it is in the top 10 (you can find out my other 9 &#8220;best&#8221; exercises by clicking the link to the &#8220;10 Best&#8221; image on the right).\u00a0 Crawling is a great exercise to work core stability, strengthen the shoulder girdle plus it can help improve your coordination. \u00a0It also mimics movements that we do on the fire ground- -search and rescue and hose-line advancement. \u00a0And, crawling can actually be a pretty intense workout!<\/p>\n<p>I recommend using a variety of directions and positions (forward, lateral, pulling objects) Focus on keeping hands under your shoulders to avoid shoulder impingement and be sure to tighten core muscles during the exercise.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>How to Crawl<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>One of the most basic crawls is the bear-crawl, which involves keeping your hips high in the air with your arms and legs straight. If you haven\u2019t crawled since you were a baby, the bear crawl is a good way to ease back in.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/crawling.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2502\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2502 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/crawling-300x217.jpg?resize=300%2C217\" alt=\"crawling\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another version, the spider-crawl is a lot harder than the bear-crawl. Instead of keeping your hips up, the spider-crawl has you bending your arms and legs while keeping your hips down. Imagine you are trying to get through a narrow tunnel without letting your belly touch the ground.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/spicer-crawl.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2503\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2503 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/spicer-crawl-300x132.jpg?resize=300%2C132\" alt=\"spicer crawl\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI recommend incorporating crawling with other fire ground movements into interval overhauls.
