This situation may be at least partially due to lack of agreement over fitness and body composition standards in the fire service and the fact that few departments engage in regular monitoring of body composition and physical fitness in their firefighters.&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\"><a style=\"clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/IAFF-20MEMORIAL.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/IAFF-20MEMORIAL.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\">The research found that occupational factors may place firefighters at high risk for weight gain, including:<\/div>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\">\u2022 Shift work<\/div>\n<div style=\"border: currentColor;\">\u2022 Sleep disruption<br \/>\n\u2022 Unhealthy eating patterns in the firehouse<br \/>\n\u2022 The absence of fitness standards for firefighters<\/div>\n<p>This report should urge everyone from national fire service leadership, to department chiefs, to individual firefighters to think creatively and join in efforts to reverse the negative trends of unhealthy body weight and poor physical fitness.\u00a0 Now is the time to begin a national conversation regarding obesity in the fire service.<\/p>\n<p>We as Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedic&#8217;s need to start changing our unhealthy culture around the firehouse.\u00a0 Instead of grabbing a sugary treat like a cookie or cake, we need to reach for something healthy.\u00a0 We as FireRescue Athletes must also start to act like athletes and remember that food is a fuel that allows us to more efficiently and SAFELY perform our duties.<\/p>\n<p>Among the recommendations the report makes for the fire service to combat obesity and increase fitness are:<br \/>\n\u2022 Fire departments should consider conducting annual fitness assessments.<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimal fitness recommendations for all firefighters should be a priority.<br \/>\n\u2022 An effective fitness program can be implemented by fire departments at minimal cost and using existing facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Take the first step toward reducing your chances of heart attack, back injury\/ strain and get into the best shape of your life by <a href=\"https:\/\/app.getresponse.com\/site\/zamzowfitness\/webform.html?wid=171805\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JOINING<\/a> the FireRescue Athlete Nation and starting the <a href=\"https:\/\/app.getresponse.com\/site\/zamzowfitness\/webform.html?wid=171805\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FREE FRF 28-day Quickstart Workout program which includes the SOP&#8217;s to Lean Eating in the Firehouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: x-large;\">&#8220;The time for action is now.
