Fire Rescue\u00a0Athlete. \u00a0 If you are a Fire Rescue Athlete (or not) you need to plan your workouts to address each of these traits. \u00a0One of the most overlooked is balance and coordination. \u00a0As a trainer, I get asked how and when is the best time to train for balance? \u00a0And, as a firefighter I get asked why do I need to train for balance?<\/p>\n<p>Well, the last thing you want to happen as you climb a ladder or lift a patient is to lose your balance; this often leads to injury or possible death.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_885\" style=\"width: 287px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-885\" class=\"wp-image-885 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/firerescuefitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/hands-on-ball-push-ups.png?resize=277%2C228\" alt=\"hands-on-ball-push-ups\" width=\"277\" height=\"228\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-885\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">For a challenge, try this push-up&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<div>You can\u00a0easily\u00a0modify current exercises to challenge your balance by changing your stance (going from two legs to one), standing on a balance board or BOSU, changing your angle of movement (incline or decline), and\/or using a stability ball instead of a stable object. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0Another option is to add single-leg exercises into your active rest.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">Take a look at the video below, the single-leg squat touchdowns is one of the best exercises for improving balance and coordination on the fire ground.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0Click on the video below.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center;
