Hey Matt, not sure on that particular aspect yet. I think the biggest issue is staying in the plunge too long as we are prone in the fire service to try to one up each other.

Hey Matthew, good question. I think there could be some potential dangers if you jump right out of the cold into gear/ action. There would be some strain on the system and a potential for pulled muscles. I think the cold plunges are a great option coming off shift or to do at home. I know there are some people doing them at the firehouse but my recommendation would be to start with cold showers at the firehouse and then move to the plunges coming off shift or at home.

Let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading the article!

Any issues with going from a cold plunge to a structure fire?

There are concerns at my department of it causing a potential cardiac issue due to the cold to hot or cold to exertion. Thanks Matt

Do you know of any issues of going from a cold plunge to a structure fire? I feel minimum from tones drop to inside a structure fire is 3 minutes. I feel this shouldn’t be an issue going from cold to hot since contrast therapy is a common and popular thing.
